Doug Hattaway

I began meditating in 2011, after experiencing a meditation led by a UCLA mindfulness researcher at a conference of hard-charging entrepreneurs. At the time I was building a business while raising two kids on my own, which meant lots of work, fun—and stress.

I use insights from social science and brain science in my work as a strategic communications consultant. And I’m always exploring the latest research, tools and techniques for mental health and physical fitness. So I’m fascinated by the recent explosion of scientific inquiry into the ancient practices of yoga and meditation.

Science shows meditation can open many paths to greater health and happiness. With practice, I’ve learned to calm my body and mind in stressful situations—whether speaking in front of hundreds of people or swimming for miles in open water.

I’m more able to focus my attention in a world full of distractions. And to be fully present with other people, while being more conscious of my own thoughts and feelings. It has helped me be a better partner, father, employer, and athlete.

As Kripalu scholars and teachers say, mediation is much more than stress management—it can help us cultivate a sense of purpose, enjoy life’s pleasures, succeed at life’s endeavors, and liberate ourselves from unhealthy conditioning. It guides us closer to what is real and true.

My mission is to share powerful insights and practical techniques to help people realize the benefits of meditation for mental health, physical fitness, and spiritual growth.
