Tyler Berry (b. 1994) was born and raised in Middlefield, CT. In 2016 he received a BFA from Hartford Art School, and was quickly recruited as an animator for the Polish feature-film Loving Vincent. During this formative year abroad, he immersed himself in Europe's art museums, captivated by and drawn to study the works of the Old Masters. During a four-month work residency in Athens, he spent his time studying and drawing the sculpture and architecture of ancient Greece intimately, while painting the natural landscape of Greece. This reverence for tradition culminated in Tyler's completion of Grand Central Atelier's core program in 2022, where he currently teaches drawing.

His paintings are an exploration of people, nature, and their relationship to one another. Having spent his twenties immersed in study, his work today demonstrates a facility and concise legibility that is unique to hand and eyes honed for truthful observation, and informed by the drawing language of the European Masters. The act of painting and drawing is as much the art form to him as the final work, and Tyler enjoys engaging with his subjects from life and memory, creating art objects that are records of experience as much as they are poetic arrangements of line and color. The intersection of the universal and the particular marks the keystone of Tyler’s practice.

Tyler is the recipient of numerous awards and has participated in group shows around New England and New York City. His work belongs to private and public collections across the US and Europe including the New Salem Museum of Art, Stobart Foundation, Grand Central Atelier, and Art Renewal Center. He currently works and teaches at his studio in Brooklyn NY, as well as workshops worldwide and online.
